Massage Therapy sessions at our office range from a half hour session up to a full 2 hour session. (A half hour appt is not an appropriate amount of time to address the entire body it is more part specific ex: upper body tension therapist will work on back, neck and shoulders.) A session consists of the therapist discussing with the client about his/her areas of tension or concern that they wish to have the therapist focus on during their massage and then a plan is created together from there for each individual client. Every body is different therefore each session is different due to the needs of that particular client. You don’t have to have any specific concerns or conditions to benefit from a massage. Many people receive massage therapy just to simply “get away” from the stresses of life and to relax and restore the body, mind, and spirit.

These two are a terrific pair and go hand ‘n hand wonderfully. Chiropractic care helps keep your body in alignment by manipulating the bones of our body and helps correct many conditions and discomforts. Massage therapy helps by softening and manipulating the tissues of the body. Therefore, a massage can help the body hold adjustments longer. If the muscles in your body are hypertonic (tight, tense) then they can fight against the bones of the body by pulling, therefore causing your body to go out of alignment which is the cause of many discomforts and conditions. So by keeping the tissues of your body soft and relaxed you help keep your body healthy and allow your chiropractor to adjust you easier.

What do I wear to my massage appointment?

Come as you are straight from work or come in wearing your comfy clothes you lounge around in. What you’re wearing does not affect your massage in any way, just your comfort level when you are finished with your massage.

Must I completely undress for my massage?

Most massage sessions are performed with the client undressed down to their underpants, but it is entirely up to you and your comfort level. You will be properly draped/covered with sheets and a blanket during the entire session. Only the body part being currently worked on will be exposed at a time.

How does my massage session begin?

Your therapist will take you to the treatment room where the massage will take place, answer any questions you may have, leave closing the door behind, you will undress down to your comfort level, get on the massage table underneath the sheet and blanket, cover up completely except for your head, and wait for your therapists knock.

Will the massage hurt?

Each person/body is tolerable of different types of pressure. Therefore your massage therapist will ask you what you prefer, and check with you a couple of times throughout your session to see if you feel the depth of pressure is appropriate for your comfort level. Just remember to make sure it is a good hurt, a sense of relief of tension, and not too uncomfortable for you. If you feel like you can’t handle any deeper work and your body is just ready to “relax” then go lighter. The decision is up to you just make sure you communicate with your therapist.

For a few days after a massage you may feel that your muscles are sore, like after a workout. This is totally normal and is your body’s way of getting rid of toxins and repairing itself.

What can I expect for my first session?

For your first session you should arrive approximately 10 minutes early giving you time to fill out an intake that has a variety of questions about your job, activities, family and personal history of disease, accidents, and surgeries to help the therapist understand what plan is best for you. It may seem excessive but all of these answers lead to clues that help in your recovery plan and ease your discomfort. Knowledge is key.
